Week 4 Results

Game of the week- Orange over Pink. Pink came into this game missing four of their top players (Nolan, Shawna, Jamie, and Viktor). They would soon lose another one as Frank went down with an injury. Based off of the game result, you would never know the difference. A zone led by Dan and Tim in the cup with Christophe greatly stymied the shooters from Orange, a team that loves to go big as much as possible. Orange took half 6-4 and wanted a quick break to put the game away to start the half. The break never came. Christophe and Josh were slinging flick hucks and Christophe got end zone D and end zone D. On universe point, Alec could quite pull down a floaty over Christophe. Orange was able to slip off their man at the back of the stack to get the disc back. A seemingly 50 pass possession later was able to finally figure out the zone of Pink. 8-7 win for pink

Offensive player of the week- Jake from white. His flick hucks helped lead white’s explosive offense. They faced two very good teams in maroon and blue were able to control the game easily in both.

Defensive player of the week- Christophe. He probably had double digits Ds in the game against orange. He would routinely control vast areas of the field and orchestrated a comeback that fell just short.

Rookie of the week: Gab from Blue. Her team may have had a rough day, but she sure didn’t. She was likely the leading score for the day in her first week showing up. She scored three against orange and two more against. She timed her cuts and went up big for every floaty pass that blue threw deep to her. With her rise and the growing team chemistry, blue will be a team to watch out for in the 2nd half of the season

Next week’s game of the week- Orange vs White. The undefeated orange team plays against the “‘undefeated when I have played’-Jake” team in white. This could end up being a key game in who ends up taking home the regular season crown and the no. 1 spot in the playoffs.

1st round results:

Orange win over Blue

Pink win over Purple

White win over Maroon

Maroon opened the game with an early break, but white answered back with a break of its own. Maroon scored in one throw off of an OB pull with a perfectly placed backhand huck from Aaron Richards to Beth Bradley to tie at 3s. Ben Slade answered back with a long huck to a streaking Dan Wilson, and managed to convert a double break to take half 6-3. In the second half, White was able to pull away and took the win 11-4.

2nd round results:

Orange win over Pink

Maroon win over purple

White win over blue

Blue opened the game on offense with three consecutive holds, looking unstoppable with a patient and methodical attack led by the handling trio of Jonnie, Mike and Paolo. Neville caught two key goals early in the game. White cycled through several defensive strategies to try to neutralize the potent cutting of Gab and Jenny. Jacob Slade picked up two key blocks on Paolo and unleashed several big flick hucks for scores. White appeared to put the game out of reach at 9-4 with a flick from Dan Wilson to Aaron Vaughn out of a timeout. However, Blue came roaring back to 10-7 after goals by JC and Paolo. On the final point, White worked it methodically down the field, with Isabel Haber catching the game winner from Juice.

Current standings after week 4:

Orange 8-0

White 6-2

Pink 4-4

Blue 3-5

Maroon 3-5

Purple 0-8

Week 3 Results

Game of the week- Orange over Maroon. Maroon came in with an incredibly deep team and players that loved to run. They were matched up against the previously unbeaten orange team. Maroon came to play. They broke early and then held that one half break through the first half. They ran their offense through the steady handler offense of Trevor and Aaron, the Moxie of Naveed’s deep shots, and the all around defense of Beth. Orange was able to earn their break back just before half on a fantastic d by Matt T. on an under. Orange was able to get the first two points out of half, securing a 10-9 victory over Maroon

Offensive player of the week- Dante from Purple. In another upset bet, purple (and especially Dante) gave all that they had again white. He recorded numerous layout and sky scores against a fully loaded white team. The huck happy and daring purple team didn’t quite have enough up their sleeves, falling to white 11-8

Defensive play of the week- Beth from Maroon. Despite playing on a team with only 2 total women in 95 degree weather, she had no lack of energy. She single handedly shut down orange’s strategy of throwing deep to their women that had worked so well earlier on in the season. She record 3 Ds in the 2nd half alone in a game that ended within one score.

Rookie of the week: Katie from Pink. Although she isn’t as green as other rookies listed, this is her first year in the tidewater league. She had outstanding defensive and offensive play in both games. Her herculean effort was not enough as pink dropped both games (8-11 to white and 7-8 to blue).

Next week’s game of the week- Pink vs White in round 1. This game pits teams who very much have their eyes set on a first round bye in the playoffs. This game features the incredible fast women cutters of pink vs the savvy and methodical handling women of white. Will captain Nolan return from his hurt hamstring? Will captain Ben return from his exile in the wilderness of South Carolina? Tune in next week

1st round results:

Orange win over Purple

Maroon win over Blue

White win over Pink

.-This game was highly influenced by the upwind/downwind nature of the points. White opened up an early 4-1 lead, converting an upwind break and scoring the ensuing downwinder. Pink answered back with an offensive hold and an upwind break of their own thanks to strong handler play from Nolan and Dan. Shawna "Almost Married" Zielstorff was a huge offensive threat, often drawing 2+ defenders. White took half 7-4. Pink opened the 2nd half with a downwind D point and deployed a tricky zone defense.

Over the next 20 minutes, white would patiently work it up the field only to turn it over in the red zone. Each team had numerous close calls before Ben "Clemson" Masse caught the upwind score for White. Carter Mize threw a deep pull on the next downwind point, trapping Pink deep in their own end zone. Carter's callahan on an overthrown pass made the score 9-4 and put the game out of reach. Final score 11-8.

2nd round results:

Orange win over Maroon

Blue win over Pink

White win over Purple

-Purple struck first with a huck from Nat to Dante to open the game, but White was able to capitalize on their speed male cutters to take an early 5-2 lead. Jacob Slade made plays all over the field for White on offense and defense, and Kent Grantz showed off his wheels with several impressive deep runs. In the second half, Purple deployed an effective lane poach from Isabella to clog White's in cuts and Ben Travis picked up a key block on Ben Slade, bringing the game as close as 8-6. However, White was able to adjust to Purple's huck-heavy offense and secured the victory 11-8

Current standings after week 3:

Orange 6-0

White 4-2

Pink 3-3

Blue 3-3

Maroon 2-4

Purple 0-6

Week 2 Results

Game of the week- Pink over Maroon. In a matchup missing captains from both sides due to injury, Pink was able to navigate through Maroon’s tricky 6 man clam. They secured a seemingly safe 7-5 lead with hard cap quickly approaching. Maroon was able to claw its way back forcing universe point at 7-7. Josh from pink was able to slot a cross field flick blade to dissect the clam and claim victory. Flick blades are back and I couldn’t be happier.

Offensive play of the week- Mike “deep threat” Wong was very much over thrown on a deep huck. Breese came out of nowhere to snag the pass. In a game where every point matters, blue was able to use the strength of their handlers to secure a 7-6 victory over white and claim 3rd place in the league.

Defensive play of the week- Audrey from White. A player typically known for her deep cuts and deep defense, she at first guided white’s offense with a calming presence as a handler. As one of orange’s young athletic men peeled deep completely open, she chose to return to her roots. She peeled off her defender to box out and win a jump ball against him. This play and the overall gunslinging from white, including a 40 yard FLICK BLADE from Josh, helped white recover and win the 2nd half against orange 6-5.

Rookie of the week: Robbie from Orange team. Minutes after learning what a stack and force were, he secured a deep ball for a score against pink. He then showed more patience than the rest of Orange’s team throughout the day, especially in the red zone. He finished the day with a few hockey assists and no turnovers. Very excited to see what he can do for orange for the rest of the year.

Non-ultimate highlight of the week: Clyde has a big layout attempt that not only falls short, but injures his shoulder. Dr Peter from Blue and Dr to be Morgan from Purple quickly perform an assessment on Clyde, saving his shoulder for more future layouts to come (or to come after proper treatment and rest).

Week 1 Results

Game of the week- Purple and pink played the closest game of the week. In this back and forth huckfest, Pink was able to overcome a two break deficit with strong athletic defensive plays by players Shawna and Christophe. In a winner take all point, Viktor connected on a 50 yard flick bomb to Christophe right as hard cap went off. Panthers win 8-7

Offensive play of the week- The aforementioned Viktor huck to Christophe

Defensive play of the week- The HRBT played fantastic defense in the first game of the day. This beast shut down the southside heavy squads teams such as Purple. The team was unable to overcome a start marked by many key players being out. The gritty defensive play of white was too much to overcome for purple in a strong debut by the white team.

HUMAN defensive play of the week- Alec from the orange team had a fantastic waist high layout on an under in a matchup vs blue. This led to a quick dish for a score shortly after. This intensity allowed orange to open up a run in a very tight early start to the game.

Rookie of the week: Nick from the blue team. The 2nd youngest player of the league and free agent extraordinaire, played like one of the most experienced players. He snagged seemingly every floaty disc that came his way in a strong performance for his team.

Next week’s game of the week- In a contrast of styles, the lightning quick handlers of team blue face off against the tall athletic cutters of team white to start off the night. Will the methodical play and the departure of white’s team captain be enough for blue to score the upset?
